Neonatal minimal invasive management of a prenatal gunshot trauma: case report

Abstract Background Prenatal penetrating gunshot trauma represents a challenging scenario for healthcare providers. Trauma is the leading non-obstetric cause of morbidity and mortality during pregnancy, even though rare, firearm injuries have most fatal outcomes higher fetus rates. Understanding mechanism injury in order to identify possible adequate management essential. In this paper, we discuss case newborn with prenatal trauma, treatment used, outcome conservative minimally invasive management. Case presentation We present male newborn, 37 weeks gestational age weighing 3050 g, delivered through an emergency cesarean section trauma. Two skin wounds were found, one arm another left thoracic region. The patient presented respiratory distress, bilateral pneumothorax, pneumoperitoneum, requiring high-frequency mechanical ventilation placement drains. pneumoperitoneum was attributed pulmonary barotrauma, no suspicion abdominal hollow viscera lesion. A right thoracoscopy performed after 24 h removal foreign body. Both mother baby had positive outcome, further needed. Conclusions For improvement result events, intervention coordinated efforts from multidisciplinary clinical surgical teams are required. wounds, entry, trajectory, final position bullet, pathological findings images need be analyzed before taking operative room.
